Built in 1979, 1111 19th Street, NW was a non-descript mid-block precast building located in the heart of the Central Business District in Washington, DC. Recognizing that the building had a greater potential, Clarion Partners and DTZ came to STUDIOS to reinvent their building’s identity to attract new retail and office tenants through a strategic intervention.
The new all-glass lobby facade is extended all 12 floors up the center of the building to make fresh statement visible from the cross-streets. A subtle balance of white ceramic frit, high performance floor-to-ceiling glass, and stainless steel create a bright, vertical gesture that links the office space down to the building entry. By infilling the legacy arcade and re-glazing the lower office levels, the new building identity is tied to the pedestrian experience on the street while also adding valuable rentable office and retail square-footage. These renovations, along with a completely reconfigured building lobby and fitness center, have transformed the building into a recognizable landmark and desirable address in Washington.
