STUDIOS designed the AIA San Francisco Chapter’s touchdown area within the Moscone Center exhibit hall for the 2009 National AIA Convention. The 50′ x 50′ space featured a visitors lounge, information desk, and a display of AIASF award-winning projects. A “living mural”, created from perforated metal panels, formed a screen between the entryway and the lounge – visitors were encouraged to sketch ideas about sustainability and community onto index cards, which were then mounted onto the wall. This second skin of cards evolved over the three days of the convention.

All materials used for the touchdown space have had a second life after the event: furnishings and exhibit walls were on loan, carpets were repurposed, and the metal panels used for the mural were donated to a pro bono project that STUDIOS designed for a local non-profit.
