Marimekko, the Finnish fashion and lifestyle brand, recently established its own flagship store at 200 Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron neighborhood of Manhattan. STUDIOS, completed renovations at 200 Fifth in 2010, and acted as Architect of Record in cooperation with Marimekko’s internal design team for their NYC location. Consequently, Marimekko asked STUDIOS to serve as the principal architect and designer for their subsequent store in Palo Alto, Boston, and Beverly Hills.

As the company’s third stand-alone store in North America, the Beverly Hills location will serve as the West Coast Flagship store. STUDIOS served as principal architect and designer for the space, which includes a showroom, small cafe, offices, and retail space. The concrete floors, clean ceilings, and specialized lighting allow Marimekko’s product to take center stage. Marimekko’s signature hangers suspended from the ceiling and tall, thin profiled shelving define the retail space. Featured fabrics, fashions, and textiles hang playfully from the ceiling as well. The space is colorful and simply assembled embodying the company’s philosophy of “understanding and accepting the beauty of life just as we encounter it every day.”
