Melissa Duffy, AIA

Managing Principal

“Whenever I design a space, I think about the memories people will have after living, working, or dining there. Especially at University, which is such a pivotal time in people’s lives. If you can be part of shaping that for someone, it’s exciting.”

Maker of connections, enemy of silos. Melissa consistently finds new ways to bring things together—people and their environment, STUDIOS and long-term clients, ambitious projects and perfectly calibrated teams. She loves the diversity of her work, and the active and engaged clients who add so much value to the design process. Melissa breaks down barriers of all kinds. Whether tying floors together in vertical space and encouraging people to look up, or expressing an organization's values and culture through design, her quest for meaningful connection is evident throughout her work.

Since joining STUDIOS in 1998, Melissa has brought clarity in her leadership of complex, large-scale projects with multi-layered client and consultant teams. She has worked across many markets, from individual tenant spaces for tech and media clients to new commercial developments, as well as university and civic buildings. Along the way she has forged and cultivated enduring relationships with major public and private clients. Melissa is the Managing Principal for both our San Francisco and Los Angeles studios.
