STUDIOS worked with MetLife to create a new home for their Global Technology Campus in the Raleigh, NC suburb of Cary. The project occurred on a fast-track timeframe, and the 400,000 square foot space was designed and constructed in less than two years.
The campus’ two buildings are filled with engineers, software developers and project managers tasked with building technology to better serve MetLife’s 100 million customers in 50 countries. This project was a consolidation of tech hubs that were formerly spread across the Northeast and Southeast and included the hiring of over 1,000 new MetLife employees.
Along with the relocation of their US Retail Headquarters to nearby Charlotte, NC, the project represents MetLife’s commitment to providing its employees with a more flexible and collaborative workplace environment in a beautifully landscaped campus setting. Features include a fitness center, coffee bar, outdoor basketball court and a variety of formal and informal meeting spaces creating maximum interaction zones.
Envisioned as a space where the entire campus is a workplace, the project was created with four generations of workers in mind, and incorporates spaces that appeal to younger employees just entering the workforce. Employees sit or stand at adjustable desks that can be raised or lowered and have the choice of working in rooms that feature an X-Box, a treadmill and a “mother’s room” catering to the needs of parents. A variety of collaboration areas are distributed throughout, some with integrated technology, and some purposely devoid of technology to encourage interpersonal dialogue.
Workplace of the future.
The project includes integrated branding, adding a layer of interest and tactility that ties the facility together, from way-finding signage to branded privacy films on glass surfaces. In addition, unique Peanuts art created by Tom Everhart further enhances the experience throughout.
