The award-winning design of the KAUST Investment Management Company in Arlington, VA is featured on the cover of the winter issue of Architecture DC, the magazine of the AIA Washington, DC Chapter.
The article features the minimal reception area offset by a translucent gold box – a distinct counterbalance to the ornate entry tunnel – creating a conference space intended for semi-private meetings. Opposite the gold glass room is an organic, white wall encapsulating the boardroom and a large, marble monolith behind the reception desk. The opaque enclosure provides for confidential board meetings and a fluid pathway to public elements of the plan including restrooms, pantry and an additional conference rooms. Due to the KIMC’s need for strict client confidentiality, a clear delineation of public and private spaces was necessary. The boardroom was strategically located directly adjacent to reception at a location with compromised views; no exterior windows were permitted. As a result all open work areas and public conference rooms were given universal access to the best views of the Potomac River and National Mall.
