Erik was a Founding Principal of STUDIOS Architecture in 1985, and later led the establishment of the firm's London, Paris and Los Angeles offices. He served as Chairman of the Board until 2009.

Erik is active in planning, architecture and interiors internationally. His signature work for high technology clients helped establish new workplace models used worldwide to restructure a company’s social organization and invest corporate architecture with greater meaning. His work is characterized by its emphasis on community and the dynamics of human interaction. As the principal designer for many prominent STUDIOS projects, Erik spearheaded the formation of STUDIOS’ aesthetic of narrative architecture, where the natural history and cultural influences of a site’s location are joined to building program to give work both emotional and intellectual resonance. Erik has also worked extensively with higher education clients, designing classrooms, wet and dry laboratories, office and conferencing centers, housing, dining, fitness, retail and other student life spaces.
