When STUDIOS began the renovation of Baker Hostetler’s practice floors, the firm could not have predicted how rapidly their needs would change. Shortly after the project kickoff, Baker Hostetler Partner Irving H. Picard became the court-appointed trustee in securities brokerage house liquidations under the Securities Investor Protection Act (SIPA) for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.
The massive new case led to the firm acquiring additional project floors and what began as a moderate renovation became a larger, phased project, and, ultimately, an exercise in progressive programming. In addition to the traditional perimeter offices, Baker Hostetler adopted an open workspace solution for litigation support staff to accommodate for rapid growth and continued flexibility.
The firm’s increase in staffing fostered a need for additional amenity space. The reception, lobby, pantry, and large multipurpose room were all located on the south side of the building to take full advantage of views to Rockefeller Plaza. An open connecting stair creates energy throughout the space, providing guests and staff an opportunity for casual interaction.
