STUDIOS was selected by the development team to provide full design services for this transformational adaptive reuse and historic preservation & overbuild project in Washington, DC’s bustling Shaw neighborhood. In collaboration with the Bond Partnership (Fivesquares, Menkiti, & Edens) and Howard University, STUDIOS is revitalizing the Bond Bread Factory and Washington Railway & Electric Company (WRECO) sites into a 600,000 square foot mixed-use destination. The design retains not only the exterior facades of these historically designated structures, but also significant interior portions of Bond Bread and the party wall between the two buildings, preserving distinctive spaces not typical to Washington, DC architecture. This transformational project will consist of approximately 430 residential units, a 180-room hotel, 55,000 square feet of retail, and an additional 20,000 square feet of activated public park.
