Supporting Off-Campus Students

Low housing supply and high rental prices prevent many students from living on or near campus, particularly in urban centers. While some students must take multiple forms of public transportation or drive long distances to campus, others have resorted to sleeping in their cars to avoid long commutes. Already a growing concern pre-pandemic, these issues have deepened as more students return to in-person learning. How might universities better support commuting students and provide them with greater access to the kinds of social and academic interactions available to their on-campus peers?
