Two Recent Projects Achieve Fitwel® Certification
DATEJanuary 21, 2021
We kicked off 2021 with a focus on health and wellness with two recently completed projects achieving Fitwell® certification—the renovation of the Mission Tech campus in Santa Clara, California as well as our own New York studio!
For the four-building Mission Tech campus, we inserted skylights and atria to bring in more natural light, and strengthened the visual connections to the central courtyard and water features by replacing the existing tinted windows. In addition to updating walking paths and landscaping, we created a new outdoor kitchen and deck to encourage tenants to come together both inside and out.
"While this certification speaks to the human-focused design that comes naturally to STUDIOS, it is also a commitment to using our own space to be a leader in health and wellness in the workplace."
—William McCommon, AIA, WELL AP, Fitwel Amb, STUDIOS
The renovation of our New York office re-establishes our commitment to SoHo, a walkable, amenity-rich, and transit-connected neighborhood we’ve called home for 25 years. To achieve the Fitwel certification we formalized our best practices for cleaning as well as monitoring air quality and testing our potable water. We’ve also moved to sit-stand desks and strengthened our programs which support the health, wellness, and community in our office.
Developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and U.S. General Services Administration, the Fitwel® system focuses on design and operational strategies that promote occupant wellness, from access to natural light and outdoor spaces to healthy food options and elements such as stairwells that encourage physical activity.
