To support McKinsey & Company in its relocation to Boulevard des Invalides in Paris, STUDIOS developed the workplace strategy and interior fit-out to create an open, connected, and adaptable work environment.
More than just an office, the project embodies a true home: a vibrant and welcoming place designed to bring together all employees, strengthen collaboration at a European scale, and host clients in a setting of excellence.
Conceived to serve both performance and innovation, the design fosters collective intelligence, encourage collaboration, and provide complete flexibility of use.
A people-centered approach
To develop a bespoke project tailored to McKinsey's ways of working and reflecting the latest workplace evolutions, STUDIOS conducted a comprehensive workplace strategy and programming mission. This included benchmarking McKinsey’s most recent offices worldwide, co-design workshops, employee surveys, on-site observations, and an in-depth analysis of actual workplace behaviors.
The result is a workplace that offers greater choice and comfort for teams, with a program closely aligned to their needs and spaces designed to adapt to the diversity of work rhythms.
This new environment goes beyond the traditional function of an office: it acts as a catalyst for interaction, a tool that supports corporate culture, and a driver of sustainable performance.
A flexible and agile building designed for everyone, enabling work anywhere
Conceived as a strategic hub, McKinsey’s new office offers a flexible, non-hierarchical environment capable of accommodating up to 800 people in optimal conditions.
Shared desks, open spaces with alcoves, meeting rooms, phone booths, and Partners’ offices that can be converted into team rooms: individual workstations account for less than a third of the total area, leaving ample space for collaborative environments and project-based work .
Hybrid spaces animate the building throughout the day: a café and restaurant open continuously for informal use; a sixth floor and rooftop designed to be modular — functioning as coworking areas or privatized venues to engage the wider ecosystem. On the lower ground floor, beneath the courtyard’s glass canopy, “La Rotonde” is a large, fully adaptable multifunctional space that can host conferences, client workshops, training sessions, or coworking events thanks to entirely flexible layouts.
At every level, the architecture fosters interaction, hospitality, and collective performance, with dedicated areas to gather, host events, and receive clients, such as the fourth-floor client suite with its open terrace, as well as the auditorium.
A place of harmony and understated elegance
Through this project, STUDIOS has created a true Parisian home for McKinsey & Company — an environment that is elegant, refined, modern, and welcoming, celebrating natural light, openness to the outdoors, and the use of authentic materials.
The design narrative draws inspiration from the project’s context. The building’s Art Deco codes are reinterpreted in reception and client areas, while the spirit of a Parisian apartment informs the workspaces, creating an inclusive and comfortable atmosphere that encourages collaboration.
Transparency and visual connections multiply throughout the building, while interaction with the outdoors is highlighted through views, terraces, the rooftop, and the courtyard. Outdoor areas are treated as destinations in their own right, and greenery is seamlessly integrated into the interior spaces.
A sustainable approach guided the choice of materials and furnishings: locally sourced, bio-based materials with a strong presence of wood, repurposed or transformed furniture, acoustic panels made from recycled PET, chairs crafted from coffee grounds fibers, and more. STUDIOS also conducted a comprehensive inventory of existing furniture to extend its lifecycle within the new spaces.
This approach contributed to the project achieving WELL Gold and BREEAM Fit Out Very Good certifications.
