As part of the effort to enhance their Pleasanton campus, this technology company collaborated with STUDIOS on the design of a new dining destination with the Byte Bistro cafe and Brew Bar coffee bar. The extensive daylight, use of natural materials, and connection to the surrounding landscape support staff wellbeing, complimented by the nutritious food options that help sustain energy and focus throughout the day. The design underscores the client’s commitment to empowering their employees and has achieved WELL Gold certification.
STUDIOS worked closely with the client to understand how their staff would use and move through the space. Visitors are greeted by Brew Bar, a full-service coffee bar offering grab-and-go food and an adjacent lounge area. Reminiscent of a local corner coffee shop, this area can be used for socialization or a quick drink or snack between meetings.
The expansive open dining room is lined with windows on the east side, which flood the entire space with light. The design aims to unite inside and out, bringing the lush campus exterior into the dining experience through materiality. Elegant in its simplicity, warm wood is complemented by a neutral palette of grey and white. Views into an adjacent courtyard are enriched by a live olive tree at the entry, greenery-filled planters, and colorful murals depicting native plants and vegetation.
An exterior courtyard along the east periphery allows dining to spill into the landscape when the weather is nice. Wood-paneled planters with integrated benches recall the design of the servery, tying the two spaces together with materiality and texture. A variety of seating options support groups of all sizes for sharing meals or simply socializing away from their desks.
